Application Process

  1. Download the building permit application and zoning forms from the Cambridge city website, or obtain paper copies at the City Office.
  2. Submit the completed application to the City Office for a completeness review.
  3. The City Office schedules the application for review at an upcoming Cambridge Planning Commission open meeting. The Planning Commission reviews the application and makes a recommendation.
  4. The City Council gives final approval. No work may begin until City Council approval is obtained.
  5. Obtain Nebraska State Electrical Division (NSED) electrical permit for any electrical work — contact Gary Lofton, (308) 325-2219, gary.lofton@nebraska.gov.
  6. For commercial or public-assembly projects, submit plans to the Nebraska State Fire Marshal (NSFM) for fire/life safety plan review at https://sfm.nebraska.gov/
  7. For any construction disturbing one or more acres, obtain NDEE Construction Stormwater General Permit before breaking ground.
