Permit triggers and exempt work for Lyons
A building permit is required for new construction, additions, structural alterations, and changes of use within the incorporated City of Lyons.

- Lyons has its own Code of Ordinances governing building requirements. The adopted code version (IBC/IRC standard) was not directly confirmed. Nebraska state baseline is IBC/IRC 2018. Confirm with the Building Inspector.
- Contractor requirements
- All contractors must be registered under the Nebraska Contractor Registration Act. Registration fee $25/year; workers' compensation certificate required. See https://dol.nebraska.gov/conreg
Application process
Typical processing: Planning Commission review applications (first Thursday of each month) must be submitted by noon on Monday prior. Contact Building Inspector Terry Ueding for timelines.
- 01 Contact Building Inspector Terry Ueding at (402) 870-1361 to discuss your project scope and confirm permit requirements.
- 02 Download and complete the Building Permit Application (2024 version) from the city website.
- 03 If your project requires Planning Commission review, submit your application by noon on Monday of the week of the Planning Commission meeting. Planning Commission meets on the first Thursday of each month.
- 04 Submit your completed application to City Hall at 335 Main Street.
- 05 Upon approval, receive and post your permit on the job site.
- 06 Schedule required inspections with the Building Inspector at (402) 870-1361.
