When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Kearney
A building permit is required for: new structures; additions and alterations involving structural, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems; accessory buildings over 120 sq ft; roof replacements; and other work as specified in the Kearney City Code Chapter 9.

- City of Kearney has adopted: 2021 International Building Code (IBC), 2021 International Residential Code (IRC), 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), 2021 International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC), 2018 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), 2017 ICC A117.1 accessibility standards, and 2010 ADA Standards. - 01 Determine whether a permit is required for your project scope and confirm whether your property is within Kearney city limits or within the 2-mile extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).

- 10 Receive Certificate of Occupancy for new buildings upon successful final inspection.
