When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Iuka
All new residential and commercial construction, additions and structural renovations, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical system installations or replacements, roofing replacement and re-roofing, deck, porch, pool, and fence construction, demolition of structures, and accessory structures require permits. Interior cosmetic work, minor repairs, maintenance, and landscaping generally do not require permits.

- Iuka, as an incorporated municipality, must adopt one of the three most recently approved IBC/IRC editions (2021, 2018, or 2015) under Mississippi Code § 17-2-4. Contact City Hall at (662) 423-3781 to confirm the specific edition adopted.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Contact City Hall at (662) 423-3781 and ask for Taxes and Permits (Melanie Torres) or the Code Enforcement office.
- 02 Obtain building permit application form in person or by request via iuka@iukams.com.
- 03 Complete the application with site plan/survey, construction drawings and specifications, contractor name/license number/contact information, estimated project cost, and description of work.
- 04 Submit application at 118 S. Front St., Iuka, MS 38852.
- 05 Building/code enforcement officer reviews for compliance.
- 06 Permit issued upon approval; retain permit on site during construction.
- 07 Schedule required inspections as work progresses.
