When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Issaquena County
Most major construction, renovation, and substantial trade work requires a building permit. Purely cosmetic work (painting, flooring, cabinets, minor repairs) typically does not require permits.
- Exempt Purely cosmetic work such as painting, flooring installation, cabinet replacement, and minor repairs
- Exempt Farm structures may be exempt from certain building code provisions under Mississippi Code § 17-2-7 (agricultural exemptions do not override floodplain management ordinances or National Flood Insurance Program regulations)
Note: Exempt from building permit does not mean exempt from zoning and planning requirements, or from flood zone compliance. Floodplain management ordinances are mandatory. Always confirm with Chancery Clerk before proceeding with exempt work. Agricultural exemptions do not override NFIP or flood zone requirements.
