When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Holmes County
A building permit is required for building, remodeling, renovation, demolition, septic system installation, or land use changes affecting floodplain areas.
- Completed permit application
- Site plan
- Property survey
- Proof of ownership
- Contractor licenses (if MSBOC work exceeding $50,000 or remodeling exceeding $10,000)
- Building code
- Holmes County does not adopt a uniform statewide code. The county may adopt provisions from the International Building Code (IBC) or International Residential Code (IRC) versions, or enforce adopted local ordinances. Applicants should verify current code standards with the Chancery Clerk.
- Contractor requirements
- Residential contractors performing work over $50,000 must be licensed through the Mississippi State Board of Contractors (MSBOC). Remodeling work over $10,000 also requires MSBOC licensure.
