• Exempt Cosmetic work only (painting, flooring, cabinetry, minor repairs)
• Exempt Agricultural structures (exempt in many Mississippi counties; verify locally)

Building code

One or more editions of the International Building Code (IBC) and/or International Residential Code (IRC) from the three most recent editions adopted. Specific edition not confirmed online; contact Clerk's Office.

Contractor requirements

Proof of Mississippi State Board of Contractors (MSBOC) license required when applicable.

   Contact Choctaw County Clerk's Office to determine if your property is in unincorporated county or within a municipality.

   Obtain building permit application form from the Clerk's Office.

   Prepare site plans and building schematics per applicable building codes.

   Submit completed application, plans, and contractor license verification to the Clerk.

   County reviews application for compliance with adopted codes and zoning.

   Permit is issued upon approval; applicant pays applicable fees.

   Schedule required inspections.
