When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Attala County
Most major construction, renovation, and trade work requires a building permit. Work that is purely cosmetic (painting, flooring, cabinets, minor repairs) generally does not require a permit. Septic system installation or repair, demolition work, and electrical, HVAC, and plumbing work require permits.
- Exempt Farm structures exempt from building code provisions under Mississippi law (MS Code § 17-2-7); however, county authorities may still require an affidavit before construction begins
- Exempt Agricultural exemptions do NOT apply to floodplain management ordinances or regulations required for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) eligibility
Note: Agricultural exemptions and all other exemptions should be confirmed with the County Clerk before proceeding. Floodplain management ordinances apply retroactively to exempt structures constructed after May 22, 2012.
