Meridian Township

The Building Division performs residential and commercial inspections and issues building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits for regulated construction and new business buildout work.

Michigan Building Code and Michigan Residential Code as adopted by Meridian Township.

Owner-builder

Township posts a Homeowner Permit Policy; contact Building Division for details.

Contractor requirements

State licensing applies.

1. 01
   Submit a Building Permit Application to the Building Division with project name, address, owner, contractor, and project information.
2. 02
   Include the associated application fee and any checklist items required by the Building Division, Engineering Division, and Fire Department.
3. 03
   Township staff reviews the plans and comments back outstanding items if revisions are needed.
4. 04
   Resubmit revised materials until all reviewing departments approve.
5. 05
   Meridian issues the building permit specifying what work may proceed.
6. 06
   Complete staged inspections during construction and obtain certificate of occupancy after final approval.

Fire plan review fees are paid at the same time; building applications are submitted with associated fees.

Inspection hours

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Typical sequence: Foundation, footing, rough wall frame, insulation, final building inspection, plus mechanical, plumbing, and electrical inspections as applicable.
