When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Mount Morris Township
The building inspector approves permits and conducts inspections for permitted work under township and Michigan codes.
Note: Because the township page routes all regulated building work through the local office and all trades through the state, confirm any claimed exemption directly with the township.

- Contractors registration fee is $25.00 per year; electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits must be obtained through the State of Michigan and copied to the township.
Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Download the Building Permit Requirements and Building Permit Application from the township building page.
- 02 Submit the completed plan examination and building permit application with owner or contractor information and required supporting documents.
- 03 Obtain State of Michigan electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits separately and provide copies to the township.
- 04 Pay township permit, contractor registration, and any related fee schedule charges.
- 05 Receive the township permit before starting work.
- 06 Give at least 24 hours notice for inspections and complete required finals.
