When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Sunset
Sunset zoning ordinance states permits are required for zoning permits and for building permit, demolition permit, drainage and driveway permit, electrical permit, fence permit, lot and land clearing permit, grading permit, mechanical permit, mobile home permit, move a building permit, plumbing permit, portable building permit, swimming pool permit, use-of-right-of-way permits, and other listed development approvals. It is unlawful to begin moving, constructing, altering, or repairing (except ordinary repairs) any building or structure until a zoning permit has been issued.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Submit a complete Residential Building Permit Application and scaled site plan to the Town of Sunset Planning Office.
- 02 After Sunset Planning approves the building permit application, submit plans to Building Code Inspection Services, LLC at (337) 886-6069.
- 03 After the building inspector approves the construction, go to Sunset Town Hall to purchase the building permit.
