When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Stanford
All new construction, additions, decks, garages, swimming pools, and commercial use changes require the Stanford building permit and Kentucky energy code compliance per the application.

- 01 Complete the City of Stanford Building Permit Application, indicating project type (new home, addition, change of use, etc.).
- 02 Attach required approvals and documentation: zoning/Planning Board sign-off, two copies of structural plans, truss diagrams/specs, soil evaluation, floor plan, wall section, lot diagram, and any restricted-covenant disclosures.
- 03 Provide contractor/subcontractor information, including City of Stanford business license numbers and state license numbers for electrical, plumbing, or mechanical trades.
- 04 Submit the packet to Code Enforcement/Building Inspection with payment due at the time of submission.
- 05 Contact the listed trade inspectors (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, septic, addressing) along with Inspector Tim Scott for the minimum inspections (foundation/footing, rough-in/framing after trades, and final).
- 06 Pass the final inspection and receive a certificate of occupancy (and lender letter if requested) before occupying the structure.
