When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Lagrange County
Most building projects require both zoning and building permits.
- Scaled site plan, building plans, project description, estimated improvement value, contractor and subcontractor names, driveway permit if applicable, waste district letter if on sanitary sewer, town letter if inside town limits, and health department approval if on septic.
- Building code
- County application states work must comply with the appropriate building code as adopted by the State of Indiana and LaGrange County. The public county materials reviewed do not identify a specific edition in the packet itself.

- If doing your own work, write SELF as the general contractor on the application form
- Contractor requirements
- All contractors and subcontractors must be listed and registered in LaGrange County before the permit is issued, per county department guidance
Application process
