Unincorporated Fountain County

An improvement location permit is required before constructing in the Business, Residential, Landfill, and Industrial districts unless an exception applies.

• Exempt Routine maintenance, repair, or remodeling of existing structures unless it involves a change of use or additional lot coverage
• Exempt Essential services
• Exempt Lot and yard improvements such as children's playhouses, drives, fences, concrete patios, decks, play equipment, retaining walls, sidewalks, and landscaping unless within 10 feet of a septic system or utility easement

Owner-builder

Applications must be made by the recorded owner or the recorded owner's contractor; contract purchasers, equitable owners, lessees, or other holders of less than fee-simple interest may not apply.

   Download/pull the permit form from county website or courthouse.

   Prepare a plot plan to accompany the permit application.

   Submit the completed permit to the courthouse or by email.

   Obtain septic approval from the Fountain County Department of Health first if the project requires it.
