When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Dearborn County
Construction is prohibited unless it conforms to a valid building permit obtained before construction starts.
Note: The county code reviewed states that all construction is subject to periodic inspections even where a permit is not required, but the public sources reviewed did not publish a clean exempt-work list.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Confirm the project requires a permit under county code.
- 02 Prepare a complete application on the form required by the Building Commissioner.
- 03 Attach detailed plans and specifications drawn to scale.
- 04 Attach a plot plan drawn to scale unless the work is entirely within an existing structure.
- 05 Attach any required design release if state law or fire code rules require it.
- 06 Include any other information the Building Commissioner requests and pay the fee set by the County Commissioners.
- 07 Submit to the Building Commissioner for review and issuance.
