When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Berne
The city FAQ says a building permit is needed for remodels involving electric, plumbing, or load-bearing walls, storage sheds, and electric updates. The building permit page also says a plot plan, project dimensions, and measurements from improvement to lot lines are required.
Note: The reviewed public pages do not publish a consolidated exemption list. The FAQ specifically mentions permit needs for certain remodels, sheds, and electric work, so claims of exemption should be confirmed with the city first.
