City of Arco

A building permit is required for all construction within the City of Arco.

Note: Applicants should contact City of Arco Building Department for information on exempt work or minor work categories.

2018 International Residential Code (IRC) and 2018 International Building Code (IBC).

Contractor requirements

Idaho Contractors Registration Act: Contractors charging $2,000+ for work improving property must register with DOPL. Registration number required on all permits, contracts, and advertising within 60 days of registration. Minimum liability insurance $300,000; workers' compensation insurance required if employing others. Penalties for non-compliance: up to $1,000 fine or 6 months county jail.

   Download Building Permit Application form from City of Arco website or obtain from City Hall.

   Complete the Building Permit Application form and prepare two (2) copies of all construction documents.

   Include plot plan showing building location on property, architectural plans, structural details, mechanical/electrical layouts as applicable.

   Submit filled form in person at City Hall (302 W. Grand Ave) or mail to P.O. Box 196, Arco, ID 83213.

   City planning and building staff review application for code compliance and zoning conformance.
6. 06
   Upon approval and payment of applicable fees, permit is issued.
7. 07
   Two copies of permit provided (one for city file, one for job site).
8. 08
   Permit must be displayed at job site at all times during construction.

Monday–Thursday 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Friday 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Typical sequence: Standard inspections required: Foundation/site preparation, Framing and structural, Electrical (final or rough-in if handled locally), Plumbing (final or rough-in if handled locally), HVAC (final or rough-in if handled locally), Final inspection and Certificate of Occupancy.
