Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Start with the Building / Zoning / Historic Preservation Commission Applications page and determine whether the project is in the Historic District or otherwise needs zoning or HPC review.
- 02 Prepare the permit application and supporting materials. The city plan-review checklist calls for two complete sets of plans, a site plan, flood elevation letter if applicable, energy form and equipment sizing calculations, roof framing or truss layout, and contractor-license verification.
- 03 Submit the applicable building permit and trade permit forms to Building Risk Management. A Structure Location Plan must be approved before issuance for new residential construction, additions, swimming pools, and accessory buildings.
- 04 The department reviews parcel identification, address, flood-zone status, zoning, completeness of submittals, and contractor licensing.
- 05 After review, the city calculates building, trade, gas, and surcharge fees and issues the permit.
- 06 Request inspections with at least 24 hours notice and obtain the certificate-of-occupancy inspection before occupying the building.
