Unincorporated Gordon County

Permits may be required for building, renovation, accessory structures, and agricultural structures depending on scope. Typically projects over 120 square feet require a permit.

Building code

Gordon County must enforce the Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes. DCA's current code page lists 2024 IBC, 2024 IRC, 2024 IPC, 2024 IMC, 2024 IFGC, 2024 ISPSC, 2023 NEC, and 2015 IECC with Georgia amendments/supplements.

Permit validity

Permit becomes null and void if work is not commenced within 180 days of issuance, or if work is suspended or abandoned for 180 days after issuance.

Contractor requirements

The county applications require Georgia state license information for the contractor and trade subcontractors. Georgia state residential and general contractor licensing rules apply.

   Contact Gordon County Building, Planning and Development at 706-629-0505 or visit the office to confirm whether a permit is required for the proposed work.

   Gather prerequisite documents, including driveway inspection and addressing where applicable, recorded deed and plat, septic approval or no-impact documentation, and fire permit for commercial, industrial, and multifamily work.

   Download the applicable permit application from the county building page. Commercial plans are uploaded through the county's ePlan Solutions portal.

   Submit the application package to the Building Inspections Office at 215 N Wall St, 2nd Floor. The county states all permits must undergo plan review before work begins.

   After review, county staff assign valuation and fees and notify the applicant when the permit is ready for payment.

   After payment, begin work and call 706-629-0505 to schedule inspections. When inspections are complete, pick up the Letter of Occupancy if needed.
