Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Confirm the property is in unincorporated Ben Hill County and verify zoning before preparing the permit package. The county fee sheet says the first step is to verify that the property is properly zoned for the proposed work or intended use.
- 02 Complete the county Permit Information Form and any trade permit forms needed. The county states owner self-contracting requires a permit affidavit form.
- 03 For new construction, additions, or other projects needing full review, submit the completed application along with deed and plat, site plan or property plat showing existing and new structures, roof plan, floor plan, elevations, electrical information, plumbing water and sewer information, mechanical information, zoning approval form, septic or health approval, and completed list of contractors.
- 04 Provide contractor state and local license information for the general contractor and all applicable subcontractors. The county states electrical, plumbing, and HVAC permits are separate, and each subcontractor on record is to call for inspections.
- 05 Make sure a 911 address has been assigned and posted where required. - 06 Pay the required fee under the county permit-rate tables. County materials state permit fees are doubled if work starts before the permit is issued.
- 07 After permit issuance, schedule inspections with the county building inspector and complete required final inspection or certificate closeout steps. The county states an initial inspection is followed by later inspections through the project, and manufactured homes require at least 24 hours notice for inspection.
