When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Taylor County
A building permit is required for most construction and alterations within unincorporated Taylor County, except where expressly exempt by the Florida Building Code.

- Permit remains valid only while construction progress and an approved inspection are recorded within each 180-day period.

- Licensed contractors required for most work; verify licensing through DBPR.

Application process
Typical processing: Varies; incomplete applications will not be processed.
- 01 Confirm the property is in unincorporated Taylor County, not within the City of Perry.
- 02 Determine if the project requires only a building permit or also planning/zoning approval, flood-zone review, marine approvals, or other outside-agency approvals.
- 03 Download the correct permit packet from the Applications and Forms page and prepare the complete paper/PDF submission with all required supporting documents.
- 04 Submit the full application package to the Taylor County Building and Planning Department via email or in person.
