When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Macclenny
A building permit is required to construct, enlarge, alter, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building.
Note: Confirm all requirements with City of Macclenny Building Department before proceeding.

- Copy of signed dated contract (if applicable) or project value documentation
- Legal description including section, township, range, lot and block, parcel number, alternate key number, and subdivision name
- Proof of ownership such as tax notice, homestead notice, certificate of title, or recorded deed

- Recorded notice of commencement for projects of $2,500 or more
- Owner-builder disclosure statement and affidavit (if applicable)
- Proof of workers compensation insurance or exemption for contractor and subcontractors
- Building code
- Florida Fire Prevention and Building Codes (state-mandated)
- Permit validity
- Permit becomes invalid if an inspection for permanent construction is not requested within 180 days, or if more than 6 months elapse between inspections.
- Owner-builder
- Owner-builders must provide signed disclosure statement and affidavit as required by state law.
- Contractor requirements
- All contractors must register with the City of Macclenny Building Department before permitting can begin. New contractor registration requires valid state contractor license, liability insurance, and workers compensation insurance.
