When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Moffat County
Building permits are required for all structures larger than 200 square feet, fences higher than 6 feet, and retaining walls greater than 4 feet. Septic permits are also issued through the building department and cost $100.
- Exempt Buildings used exclusively for agricultural sheltering of agricultural implements, farm and ranch products, livestock, or poultry
- Exempt Septic and driveway permits are handled separately from building permits
- Exempt Storage structures for passenger vehicles, recreational vehicles, equipment, construction tools and equipment not directly related to agriculture, and workshops are not treated as agricultural buildings for this exemption

- Owner-builder
- Homeowners need not be registered to obtain a permit for work on their own residence, but a homeowner can only be issued a permit of the same type every 36 months.
- Contractor requirements
- Contractors are required to be registered. Plumbers and electricians must also be registered with the State of Colorado.

Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Prepare a completed application, two sets of plans, and a site/plot plan.
- 02 Submit plans and application to the regional building department at Craig City Hall or by email where accepted.
- 03 Undergo plan review and any required state electrical review.
- 04 Receive permit issuance, then schedule inspections during construction.
