When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Weed
City permits are required for construction of new buildings and for renovation or improvement projects handled by the city.

- Any contractor or subcontractor doing work in the city must hold a current California contractor license, and the city also requires a City of Weed business license.
Application process

- 01 Confirm the work is within the City of Weed and covered by the Building Department's permitting authority.
- 02 Download the correct permit application or related form package from the online permit or forms pages.
- 03 Complete the forms with project details and permit holder information.
- 04 Complete the owner-builder declaration or contractor declaration and workers' compensation information as applicable.
- 05 Submit the application to the city by mail or in person at City Hall and pay the applicable fee.
- 06 Receive the permit card by mail or at the first inspection.
- 07 Schedule inspections with at least 24-hour notice.

The city accepts cash, check, and credit card at City Hall, and applications with checks may be mailed to PO Box 470.
