When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Hardy
No structure may be erected, moved, added to, or structurally altered without a building permit.
- For residential and commercial permits, the code requires plot plan, building plan, specifications, and, for owner-builders, a bank or lending institution letter showing funds sufficient to complete the construction.
- Building code
- Standard Building Code recommended by the Southern Building Code Congress International, as adopted in chapter 11.24 of the municipal code. Hardy also has plumbing, electrical, fire prevention, housing, energy, zoning, and subdivision chapters.
- Permit validity
- Building permits are issued for 12 months; failure to complete construction and have final inspection within 12 months voids the permit.
- Owner-builder
- If acting as own contractor, the applicant must submit a letter from a bank or lending institution stating sufficient funds are available.
- Contractor requirements
- The code requires lawful qualification for plumbing work and establishes a city Building Official; the public snippet does not show a contractor license rule in the building chapter itself.
