When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Marana
The Town of Marana requires permits for many common residential and commercial projects. The town's 'Need a Permit' page lists project-specific rules. Permits are required for roof structural repairs, HVAC replacement, utility reconnections, water-heater replacement, larger pools and spas, many trailers, and a range of other listed work items.
- Exempt One-story detached accessory structures limited to 200 square feet
- Exempt Like-for-like roofing replacement without sheathing replacement
- Exempt Same-size/same-location evaporative cooler replacement
- Exempt Certain fences and retaining walls under listed height thresholds
- Exempt Repair or replacement of paint, flooring, drywall, kitchen cabinets, or countertops
- Exempt Prefabricated pools under 18 inches deep
- Exempt Like-for-like window replacement
