When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Pima
Per town code, it is unlawful to apply for or provide utility service to any new building, mobile home, remodeled structure, or relocated structure without first applying for and receiving a valid building permit.
Note: Contact Town of Pima at (928) 485-2611 or Building@pimatown.az.gov to determine if your project requires a permit.

- Town code identifies adopted technical codes including 2011 National Electrical Code, 2009 International Mechanical Code, 2009 International Plumbing Code, and 2009 International Residential Code. Building permit application states that town ordinances 'coincide with IBC 2009.' Applicants should verify directly with Town Hall whether any newer code editions have been adopted, as posted materials may not reflect the most current adopted codes.
- Permit validity
- Building permits must be obtained and construction must commence within applicable timeframes. Permits are subject to certificate of occupancy requirements.

- Contractors must hold a valid Arizona Contractor License.
Application process
Typical processing: 5-10 business days for initial application review.

- 02 Obtain a Building Permit Application from Town Hall or the current permit documents.
- 03 Prepare and complete the Building Permit Application in accordance with town ordinances.
- 04 Provide one full set of plans for Town Hall records.
- 05 Submit the application and all required documents in person or by mail to PO Box 426, Pima, AZ 85543.
- 06 Town Hall will contact you regarding required inspections and fees.
- 07 Pay the permit fee.
- 08 Schedule and complete required inspections (rough plumbing, pre-concrete, framing/roofing, mechanical/electrical, drywall, final).
- 09 Post the permit card on site once issued.
- 10 Obtain a certificate of occupancy after all inspections are completed and passed.
