Building code

Permit packet requires drawings in accordance with IBC; confirm current edition with the city

Permit validity

Permit becomes null and void if work has not begun within six months of issuance or is not completed within one year

Owner-builder

Owner may certify exemption from homebuilders license for a primary residence not being built to sell or rent

Contractor requirements

Contractor and subcontractor information is required; all subcontractors must have a City of Pell City business license before work begins

   Complete the residential building permit application with owner, contractor, parcel, valuation, and work details.

   Return the application package to Planning and Zoning with all drawings in accordance with IBC.

   Wait for routing review by Planning, Engineering, Building, Water/Sewer, Fire, and other departments as applicable.

   Pay permit fees when collecting the permit.

   Submit subcontractor schedule within 15 days of permit issuance and update changes within three working days.

   Request inspections with at least 24 hours notice by phone or email.
7. 07
   Obtain final approval and certificate/closeout before occupancy.

Typical processing time: Completed applications submitted before 2:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday should generally be ready within a minimum of 24 hours; Friday submittals are stated to be ready the following Tuesday absent unusual circumstances
