Washington Updated March 2026

Important: Skamania County issues building permits only for properties in unincorporated areas of the county. If your property is inside an incorporated city, select your city below — that city's building department handles your permits, not the county.

Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area (NSA): Much of Skamania County, including both incorporated cities and unincorporated areas, lies within the NSA. Most new construction, ground-disturbing activities, and exterior work in the NSA require NSA land use approval from Skamania County's Planning Division before a building permit can be issued. NSA review is a separate process and can take 3–9 months. Initiate NSA review well before your intended construction start.
