A building permit is required for all construction within the Town of Westport.

Legal description of property
Name and address of designer
Intended use of building
Two complete sets of plans and specifications
Plot plan showing location and dimensions of all buildings and improvements
Setbacks, grades, easements, water courses
Plans drawn to minimum scale of 1/4 inch to 1 foot

Building code: International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC)
Contractor requirements: Washington State L&I registration required.

Work That Does NOT Require a Permit

Agricultural buildings without electrical or plumbing services (exempt from building permit but not from electrical/plumbing permits if services added)
Repairs for maintenance not involving structural portions, room arrangement, light/ventilation, exits, fire protection, or exterior aesthetic appearance
Minor repairs as determined by Building Inspector
Fences 6 feet or under (over 6 feet requires building permit and engineering)

Important: Exempt from building permit does not mean exempt from other requirements.
