Application Process

  1. Contact Tooele County Community Development / Building Department for the county building permit application and current submittal requirements.
  2. Prepare a complete application with proof of ownership, one dimensioned site plan, one complete set of construction plans, and supporting code/utility documentation.
  3. Obtain site plan approval from Tooele County Fire Department before submittal where required by the county packet.
  4. Obtain utility approval forms where applicable. For Stansbury Park, the county packet specifically calls for a Stansbury Service Agency form, receipt, or proof of payment.
  5. Submit the packet to Tooele County. Incomplete applications are not accepted.
  6. Pay plan review fees at application and remaining fees at issuance.

General Requirements

Tooele County Code requires a separate permit unless exempt. For the county, no permit is required for one-story detached accessory buildings not exceeding 120 square feet and more than 50 feet from the nearest adjacent structure, or fences not over 6 feet high, unless another code or zoning rule requires one.

Permit validity

Owner-builder
County packet includes an owner-builder exemption form and DOPL certification language.
Contractor requirements
County application requires copies of contractor licenses for contractors being used; electrical, plumbing, and mechanical contractors are separately listed with license numbers and expiration dates.
