Application Process

1. Confirm parcel zoning, floodplain, access, and land-use conditions with Cache County Development Services.
2. Complete zoning clearance for the parcel before building permit submission. County zoning clearance form expressly states not to submit for a building permit until zoning clearance has been approved and received.
3. Submit the building permit application, plans, valuation, and supporting materials to the County Building Division.
4. Address review comments, including any external engineering or specialty review required.
5. Pay county permit fees once approved.
6. Receive the permit and schedule inspections through the county before covering work.

General Requirements

County building permits are required for regulated building, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, remodeling, reroof, pool, solar, manufactured-home, demolition, retaining wall, and similar work in unincorporated Cache County.

Work That Does NOT Require a Permit

• Agricultural structures (qualifying agricultural structures under Utah law per agricultural exemption acknowledgement form)
• Small detached accessory structures up to 200 square feet
• Fences not over 7 feet high
• Retaining walls under 4 feet measured from bottom of footing to top of wall (not supporting a surcharge)
• Minor finish and repair work

Important: Exempt work cannot involve structural, egress, fire-safety, or system impacts. Site conditions and local zoning may trigger review requirements.
