Application Process

1. Download the needed application from the Construction page (general building permit, demolition, fence, sign, plumbing, mechanical, zoning, floodplain, land disturbance).
2. Prepare the application with project address, valuation, square footage, plot plan, and plans or supporting details required for proposed work.
3. Submit the completed permit package by email to permits@mtpleasant-tn.gov, or work directly with Building and Planning Department at City Hall.
4. Provide contractor licensing and workers compensation insurance documents when required. State of Tennessee contractor license required for projects over $25,000 with City of Mt. Pleasant as certificate holder.
5. Respond to any zoning or code review comments, then pay permit fees through the city payment link or approved payment method.
6. After permit issuance, complete inspections and any temporary certificate of occupancy process if needed before final occupancy.

General Requirements

Mount Pleasant publishes permit applications for building construction and remodeling, demolition, fences, signs, swimming pools, curb cuts and driveways, land disturbance, plumbing, mechanical, zoning, and floodplain development. Permits required unless specific exemption applies.

Reinspection fee

$30, must be paid before reinspection. Roadway inspection reinspection is $75 per failure area.

Payment link routes to Citisen guest payment portal. Credit cards carry $2 minimum or 2.50% of subtotal; ACH over $10,000 carries additional 0.20% charge on amounts above $10,000.
