Application Process

  1. Determine permit type from the Township permits page and gather the applicable residential or commercial checklist.
  2. Submit the permit application through SDL or by emailing PDFs to PermitApplications@peterstownship.com.
  3. Include the required site plan / survey, drawings, insurance documents, and any sewage or highway permits.
  4. Township staff review the submittal; commercial UCC reviews are forwarded to Code-sys.
  5. Pay fees, receive the permit, and schedule inspections with at least 48 hours notice.

General Requirements

A building permit is required to construct or enlarge any structure and for repairs or alterations involving structural members, plumbing, or electrical wiring. Purely cosmetic changes such as painting, paneling, exterior siding, shingle replacement, and window replacement are listed as not requiring a building permit.

Permit fee formula
Accessory structures and alterations over $5,000 use a stepped valuation schedule; new single-family or multifamily construction and additions are $0.40 per square foot; all commercial or industrial construction, additions, and alterations are $8 per $1,000 of estimated construction cost.
Reinspection fee
New application after voided or expired permit $50; any passed-through Commonwealth fees apply
Payment note
Township ordinance passes through Commonwealth UCC fees to applicants.
