Application Process

  6. Permit is issued after review. Permits are not issued immediately.

Typical processing time: Several business days for dumpsters, temporary use/signs, and operational permits; up to 2 weeks for miscellaneous/zoning permits.

General Requirements

UCC permit required before construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, movement, demolition, or change in occupancy of residential or commercial buildings; for regulated electrical, gas, mechanical, and plumbing systems; for pools, hot tubs, and spas; for detached structures over 1,000 square feet; and before occupancy where a UCC certificate of occupancy is required. Commercial building projects also generally require a miscellaneous/zoning permit.

  • Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, flooring, cabinets, countertops, and similar finishing work
  • Swings and playground equipment accessory to a one- or two-family dwelling
  • Replacement of glass in a window or door
  • Same-opening window, door, garage door, storm window, and storm door replacements without framing changes
  • Roof material replacement not exceeding 25 percent of roof area in any 12-month period
  • Replacement of existing siding
  • Installation of additional roll or batt insulation
  • Minor listed electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC work per the borough's UCC exemptions handout

Important: Fences no more than 6 feet high, retaining walls not over 4 feet high, sidewalks and driveways 30 inches or less above grade, prefabricated swimming pools less than 24 inches deep, and uncovered decks no more than 30 inches above grade still require a Miscellaneous Permit.
