Application Process

Typical processing time: Stokes County states permits submitted by 4:30 PM are processed the same business day; permits received after 4:30 PM are processed the following business day.

Danbury states that prior to beginning residential or business construction, or installing, repairing, or altering any sign within the Town of Danbury or its ETJ, the applicant must secure a zoning compliance permit and/or sign permit. Building-code permits are handled through Stokes County.

Work That Does NOT Require a Permit

- Small projects costing $40,000 or less may be exempt when they do not involve structural, design, roofing-addition, prohibited-material, or fire-code-triggering work.
Important: Danbury does not publish its own exempt-work list on the town website. Building-permit exemptions therefore follow the statewide rules in G.S. 160D-1110.
