General Requirements

Owner-builder
Owner-builders are exempt from state contractor licensing if building or improving residential structures for their own occupancy under NRS 624.031. Exemption must be applied for with the Nevada State Contractors Board.
Contractor requirements
All contractors working in Eureka County must be licensed by the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) under NRS Chapter 624. No local contractor registration or licensing is required.

Minimum permit fee
No building permit fees. Mobile home installation permits: $25.00 (permanent or temporary).

Work That Does NOT Require a Permit

  • All construction work is effectively exempt from local building permit requirements in Eureka County.
  • Owner-builder exemption from state contractor licensing available under NRS 624.031 for property owners building residential structures for their own occupancy.
  • Minor repair exemption from state contractor licensing available for work valued under $1,000 if work does not involve plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or refrigeration and does not affect public health/safety/welfare.

Important: While no local building permits are required, state-level permits may still be necessary. Septic systems (NDEP), water wells (Nevada Division of Water Resources), and mobile home installations (County) require permits. All contractors must maintain valid Nevada State Contractors Board licenses regardless of local permitting requirements.
