Application Process

  1. Create an account (or log in) at cantonma.viewpointcloud.com.
  2. Select permit type (residential, commercial, electrical, plumbing, gas, sheet metal).
  3. Complete application: project address, owner and contractor information, description of work, estimated construction cost.
  4. Upload required attachments:

  6. - Construction drawings (scale, dimensions; stamped for complex projects)
  7. - Workers' Compensation Insurance Affidavit
  8. - Homeowner License Exemption form (if owner pulling permit without CSL)
  9. - CSL and HIC license documentation
  10. Submit application through ViewPoint Cloud. Building Department reviews for code and zoning compliance.
  11. Inspections will not be scheduled until permit is paid in full. Payment is by check only.
  12. Post permit on site before commencing work.

Residential new single-family: $11.00 per $1,000 (minimum $500.00); additions/alterations/repairs: $11.00 per $1,000 (minimum $30.00--$75.00); roof/siding: $11.00 per $1,000 (minimum $50.00). Commercial new: $14.00 per $1,000 (minimum $800.00); alterations: $14.00 per $1,000 (minimum $100.00); repairs: $14.00 per $1,000 (minimum $50.00).
Reinspection fee
$50.00 when work not ready, premises locked/inaccessible, or incorrect information submitted

Work That Does NOT Require a Permit

  • One-story detached accessory structures with floor area 120 square feet or less
  • Fences not exceeding 7 feet in height
  • Retaining walls not more than 4 feet in height (measured from bottom of footing), unless retaining surcharge or impounding liquid
  • Water tanks supported directly on grade, not exceeding 5,000 gallons, with a height-to-diameter ratio of 2:1 or less
  • Sidewalks and driveways not more than 30 inches above adjacent grade and not over any basement or story below
  • Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, countertops, and similar finish work
  • Residential accessory above-ground swimming pools less than 24 inches deep, less than 5,000 gallons, and not permanently connected to any structure
  • Window awnings supported by an exterior wall projecting no more than 54 inches from the wall
