Application Process
- Determine if Conservation Commission review is required (projects near wetlands or floodplains).

- Prefabricated swimming pools (Group R-3)
- Shade cloth structures for nursery or agricultural purposes
- Swings and playground equipment
- Window awnings in Group R-3 and Group U occupancies
- Movable cases, counters, and partitions
- Greenhouses covered exclusively with plastic film
- Routine maintenance and repairs to fire protection systems
Important: Mansfield's FAQ specifies local clarifications: Sheds over 200 sq ft (residential use) or over 120 sq ft (other uses) require a permit. Fences over 6 feet in height require a permit. Swimming pools over 24 inches of water depth require a permit. Retaining walls over 48 inches in height require a permit (slightly more permissive than state's 4-foot threshold -- confirm with Building Department). Finished basements/attics require a permit when converting to habitable space. Signs require a permit. Burglar/fire alarm systems require a permit. Parking areas require a permit in some circumstances.
