Application Process
- Discuss the project with the City Building Inspector to confirm zoning compliance.
- Prepare two copies of a site plan and construction plans drawn to scale, including lot dimensions, location and size of all existing and proposed buildings, driveway locations, off-street parking, intended use descriptions, and number of dwelling units if applicable.
- For commercial new construction and remodels, provide engineered drawings. Change-of-occupancy projects also require engineered drawings.
- Properties in the Historic District require approval from the Historic Design Review Board before a building permit is issued.
- Submit application and plans in person to City Hall (210 N. Hamilton) or electronically to taj@cityofmonticello.net.
- For simple permits (fences, decks, sheds), permit is typically issued same day or next working day.
- Complex projects may take up to two weeks for review.
