Application Process

  1. Determine if a permit is required for the specific project.
  2. Complete the Permit Application form (available on website).
  3. Submit two sets of building plans and a Plat of Survey showing proposed improvements.
  4. For projects with well/septic, obtain Health Department approval first (815-758-6673).
  5. Submit Notarized Letters of Intent from licensed trades (Plumbing, Electrical, Roofing, HVAC).
  6. Pay application fee.
  7. Undergo Zoning Review and Site Inspection (stakes must be in place).
  8. Permit issuance following plan approval (typically 1-3 weeks).

General Requirements

New construction, additions, alterations, decks, sheds, fences, solar panels, and major repairs.

  • Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, countertops, and similar finish work
  • Swings and other playground equipment
  • Window awnings supported by an exterior wall
