Application Process

  1. Confirm the property is inside Woodstock city limits using the city location map referenced on the Applications and Forms page.
  2. Download the appropriate building permit application or checklist from the city Applications and Forms page.
  3. Submit the completed application package with all required supporting documents to the city.
  4. For owner-builder projects, include the applicable homeowner affidavit published by the city.
  5. Pay permit fees after review and issuance.
  6. After permit issuance, create or use a BSA Online account linked to the contractor record and schedule inspections online.

Typical processing time: Stand-alone electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and gas permits are issued the same day if all required documentation is included. Temporary signs and 15-day banner permits are also issued the same day when complete.

Effective January 1, 2026: 2024 IRC, IBC, IFGC, IPC, IMC, IFC, ISPSC; 2023 NEC with 2026 Georgia amendments; 2015 IECC with Georgia amendments; 2024 NFPA 101; local adoption of Georgia State Minimum Standard Property Maintenance Code and Chapter 1 of 2024 IBC as administrative provisions.

The city publishes Home Owner Affidavit and Home Owner Building Permit Affidavit forms for owner-builder filings.
Contractor requirements
Georgia contractor licensing rules apply. Only the general contractor may schedule inspections, and trade inspections must be scheduled under the applicable trade permit number.

Permit fee formula
Stand-alone trade permits use a Unit Count Schedule. Permanent sign permits are $50 plus $1 per square foot of sign area. Fee structure is maintained in the municipal fee code.
