Application Process
- Confirm the property is inside the City of Okeechobee.
- Use the city's permit page to identify the right form package, including the building permit application and the applicable residential or commercial checklist.
- Assemble the permit package according to the applicable checklist.
- If a contractor is pulling the permit, complete county contractor registration first with Okeechobee County Building Department and provide city contractor materials.
- Submit the application package to the City Building Department and pay the applicable city permit and plan-review fees.
- Record and post a Notice of Commencement when required by the city threshold before requesting inspections.
- Obtain any outside approvals needed for utilities, environmental health, driveway connections, FDOT, DEP, South Florida Water Management District, or other agencies if applicable.
- Complete required inspections and obtain final approval and certificate of occupancy where applicable. For new buildings, pay any public service fee required before CO is issued.

- Owner-builders must complete and submit the Florida owner-builder affidavit. Standard state owner-builder restrictions apply.
- Contractor requirements
- Valid copies of contractor's state or applicable license, local business tax receipt from home jurisdiction, general liability insurance certificate naming the City of Okeechobee as holder, and workers' compensation insurance certificate naming the city as holder must be on file before permit issuance. Contractor must register first with Okeechobee County Building Department.
