Application Process
- Review Sanibel Building Division requirements and note that all new construction and any structural exterior work or modifications must be reviewed by Planning Division first, then Building Division.
- Prepare detailed application materials including construction plans and detailed coastal-construction submittal requirements.
- Submit recorded Notice of Commencement to the city.
- For new permits: submit through CityView portal. For existing permits: check status in EnerGov.
- City Planning Division reviews for compliance with planning requirements.
- City Building Division reviews for compliance with 2023 Florida Building Code (8th Edition) and building codes.
- If plan-review comments are issued, respond and resubmit documents.
- Attach subcontractors to the permit.
- Request inspections through online portal (must request before noon for next-day scheduling).
- Pass required inspections.
- Maintain structural inspection within first six months and another approved or partially approved inspection within six months of previous.
- Once final inspections pass, certificates of completion or occupancy are emailed by end of work day, signed by Building Official.
