Application Process

  1. Review permit requirements and check the Permit Document Center for your permit type.
  2. For registered contractors: apply online through EnerGov. For owner-builders: apply online or in person.
  3. Prepare construction plans and documents according to city standards, including detailed flood and wind-related plan information.
  4. Submit application and plans through EnerGov.
  5. City staff reviews plans for compliance with building, zoning, Florida Building Code, and floodplain requirements.
  6. If substantial-improvement or substantial-damage work is applicable, submit required package.
  7. Respond to plan-review comments and resubmit documents through EnerGov if required.
  8. Pay remaining fees once reviews are approved.
  9. Request inspections through EnerGov and track progress in the system.
  10. Pass all required inspections including building, engineering, fire, and zoning reviews.
  11. Once all reviews pass, remaining fees are paid, and no further issues remain, city processes permit for issuance the next business day.
