Application Process

  1. Confirm the property is inside Temple Terrace city limits.
  2. Determine whether the permit can be processed through the normal portal workflow or by email as an over-the-counter type permit.
  3. Submit the application, plans, and supporting materials through Click2Gov or, for listed OTC-type permits, by email.
  4. If the project requires zoning review or plan review, use the regular city permit process rather than the limited email workflow.

$0.20 per gross square foot for residential new construction; $0.15 per gross square foot for commercial new construction
Reinspection fee
$75 for the first occurrence; $150 thereafter
Payment note
The city posts separate fee schedules for valuation-based permit fees, document plan-review fees, zoning plan-review fees, and life-safety plan review fees. A refund request must be made in writing within four months from permit issuance, and the city retains 30 percent of the original permit amount as a service charge before issuing a refund.

Work That Does NOT Require a Permit

  • Activities exempted by federal and state law
  • Portable cooling, heating, evaporative cooling, and ventilation equipment
  • Certain self-contained refrigeration systems
  • Application of stucco or siding involving less than 501 square feet
  • Soffit/fascia coverings involving less than 101 linear feet
  • Premanufactured accessory structures of 151 square feet or less (zoning rules still apply)
  • Non-structural slabs under 100 square feet
  • Ordinary minor repairs and maintenance to owner-occupied one- and two-family residences or farm buildings
  • Replacement of three or fewer fence panels
  • Replacement of equipment parts that do not alter approval or create unsafe conditions
  • Reroofing or roof repair of less than 100 square feet
  • Non-structural work under $1,000 total aggregate cost if not segmented to evade permitting

Important: Accessory structures still must comply with zoning regulations even when exempt from a building permit.

Requests called or emailed in before 4 p.m. are scheduled for the next business day. Requests after 4 p.m. move to the second business day unless approved as same-day emergency/case-by-case work.
