Application Process

  1. Confirm the property is within Jacksonville Beach city limits.
  2. Register the contractor with the city before pulling permits if a contractor will apply.

General Requirements

Jacksonville Beach's Building Division states it inspects structures within city limits and issues permits for construction regulated by state and local code. Any person who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, change occupancy, or materially change the use or appearance of a structure or land must register and maintain an active contractor record for permitting privileges.

Building code
8th Edition (2023) Florida Building Codes and 2020 National Electrical Code, effective December 31, 2023. Applications submitted on or after that date must be designed accordingly. Jacksonville Beach also applies its Land Development Code and city ordinances.
Contractor requirements
Contractor registration required. Must provide valid qualifying license, business tax receipt for the city and/or county where the business is physically located, liability insurance naming the City of Jacksonville Beach as certificate holder, and workers' compensation coverage or exemption.

Inspection hours
Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Access will be provided between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Submission does not guarantee inspection on the exact requested day or time.
