Application Process

  1. Confirm the property is within Atlantic Beach city limits.
  2. Register the contractor with the city before permit application. Obtain contractor registration instructions from the Building Division.
  3. Submit the permit electronically through BS&A Online. All permit documents must be PDF and all required fields must be complete.
  4. Include a copy of the paper application with the electronic submittal as required by the city.
  5. Wait for review comments and payment instructions, which are sent by email after approval and ready-to-pay status.
  6. Pay the permit issuance fee.
  7. Do not start work until the permit is issued and posted.
  8. Schedule inspections through BS&A Online using the permit number and complete all required finals.

Typical processing time: Allow up to 10 business days for plan review of submittals, corrections, and revisions.

Building code
8th Edition (2023) Florida Building Code took effect January 1, 2024. Applications submitted on or after that date must be designed to the 2023 FBC. Atlantic Beach also applies City Code Chapter 6, Buildings and Building Regulations.
Contractor requirements
Contractor registration required before permitting. Must provide current state or other qualifying license, business tax receipt, liability insurance naming the City of Atlantic Beach as certificate holder, and workers' compensation insurance or exemption.
