Application Process

1. Review the City of Marco Island forms and applications page to obtain required permit forms.
2. Complete permit application form and prepare required documents in PDF format.
3. Obtain a notarized contractor signature (or use registered digital signature in place of notary).
4. Keep forms separate from construction plans in your submittal package.
5. Submit application and supporting documents electronically through the Citizen Self Service portal.
6. City staff reviews completeness and routes plan review as needed.
7. Pay any invoiced fees. Applications are not considered submitted until fees are paid and documents are confirmed.
8. Respond to correction comments and upload revised documents if required.
9. Obtain permit issuance and pay remaining fees before starting work.
10. File and record a Notice of Commencement for qualifying new construction or remodeling work; post a certified copy at the job site.
11. Schedule required inspections through the portal or by voicemail.

Typical processing time: Varies by project complexity; inspections Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

General Requirements

A building permit is required for construction, alteration, repair, or demolition of structures, and for regulated electrical, gas, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
