Application Process
- Obtain building permit application from the city
- Prepare permit application and submit two sets of construction documents
- Submit to the city with required site plan, footing and foundation drawing, structural plan, floor plan with electrical and plumbing layout and heating source, roof plan, elevations, cross sections, and other supporting documents
- City staff reviews application
- Pay application deposit (varies by project type) plus plan review and trade permit fees
- Respond to any correction comments and resubmit if required
- Receive permit approval and commence work

General Requirements
Homeowners, contractors, or developers who build or improve any structure used or intended for supporting or sheltering any use or occupancy must obtain a building permit. The city applies this to all construction work, from a fence or room addition to a major development.
